What should U.S. merchants expect after the August 15th deadline?
For merchants who do not make a switch by 11:59pm central standard time on August 15, 2016 - BigCommerce will begin auto enabling PayPal powered by Braintree on August 16, 2016. Our auto enablement process will begin on August 16, 2016 and be completed by August 18, 2016. During this time period, your previous gateway will still be visible from inside your control panel.
Once PayPal powered by Braintree is auto enabled, merchants will be provided with a provisional account to use until your application is completed. See next section for how to apply.
Merchants have 30 days to apply for their PayPal powered by Braintree account after the first transaction. Prior to applying for a PayPal powered by Braintree account, merchants are able to accept up to $2,500 worth of transactions or process 25 transactions from customers (whichever one comes first). The funds will not be disbursed until your application is complete and the account is approved and the money is returned to the consumers if no application is completed within 30 days.
Step-by-step guide to completing your application process
(1) Ensure you are on a new BigCommerce plan to be eligible for pre-negotiated rates: If you are on an older plan, you will need to select a qualifying BigCommerce plan (Plus, Pro, or Enterprise). Log into your BigCommerce account Client Area and accept the terms of the selected BigCommerce plan and establish a billing agreement. You will then be charged the first month’s fee for your BigCommerce plan and you will become eligible to apply for the negotiated payment processing rates with PayPal powered by Braintree. If you are an existing BigCommerce Merchant already in a Plus, Pro, or Enterprise plan, you do not need to complete this step.
(2) Complete the PayPal powered by Braintree application form: Since BigCommerce will auto-enable U.S. merchants with temporary accounts, you’ll need to, complete and submit the PayPal powered by Braintree application found in your control panel payments setting area to upgrade from a temporary account to a full account. Additional information may be requested from the PayPal powered by Braintree team during the process of reviewing your application.
(3) Sign contract once approved: Allow 2 to 3 business days following your approval (application for a PayPal powered by Braintree account does not guarantee approval) for a PayPal powered by Braintree account, you will be emailed a Pricing Contract to digitally sign. We suggest adding [email protected] to your email whitelist to reduce the risk of it going to your spam folder.
(4) Account is now live: Your account will then be updated to reflect the new rate, and you will receive a notification email with the updated rate, which can take up to 10 business days. Your new rate will only apply to transactions after the date on your notification email.
